Prof. Avraham Karasik
Avraham Karasik MD
Avraham Karasik is vice dean for clinical affairs at the Sackler School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University, Israel. He is Director of the Institute of Endocrinology and recently finished his term as Chairman of Medicine at the Chaim Sheba Medical Centre, Tel-Hashomer, Israel. Professor Karasik obtained his medical degree from Hadassah Medical School, Hebrew University, Jerusalem in 1977. He was a Research and Clinical Fellow at Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA for 3 years, before returning to Israel in 1988. In 1998 he completed his Master of Healthcare Administration Degree at Rekanati School of Business Administration at Tel-Aviv University.
Professor Karasik's research interests include insulin trans-membrane signalling, mechanisms of obesity-induced insulin resistance and prevention of type 2 diabetes. He is involved in a number of clinical research projects, and is on leading multi national clinical studies in the field of prevention of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus . He has served as Chairman of the Scientific Section of the Israeli Diabetes Association, and as Chairman of the Israeli Association of Research and Treatment of Obesity. He has contributed to over 80 scientific journals and books during his career.
Prof. Karasik is co-chair of the first international congress on Prediabetes and the metabolic sundrome in Berlin, April 2005.
