Prof. Antonio Ceriello
Antonio Ceriello, MD
Prof. Antonio Ceriello is Professor of Internal Medicine in the department of Pathology and Medicine at the University of Udine, Italy, Director of the School of Specialty in Geriatric at the same University, Visiting Professor at the University of Oklahoma City (USA), and Honour Chair of Medicine at the University of Warwick (UK).
Prof. Ceriello's research interests are the pathophysiology of diabetic complications, including the post-prandial state and cardiovascular complications of diabetes as well as the effects of oxidative stress on vascular complications and vascular thrombosis in diabetes mellitus. Prof. Ceriello has been awarded numerous times by national and international associations in recognition of his research in diabetes, in particular he is the Winner of the 2004 "Castelli Pedroli Prize" of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.
An active member of numerous diabetes associations, including the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, the International Diabetes Federation and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, Prof. Ceriello has been invited as both chair and speaker to numerous conferences and congresses around the world. He also sits on the review board of numerous prestigious medical journals, including The Lancet, Diabetes, Diabetologia, Circulation, American Journal of Physiology, the British Medical Journal, and is currently Associate Editor Diabetes Care and Diabetic Medicine.
Prof. Ceriello is also consultant of the National Institutes of Health, U.S.A. for the program of the research 2003-2005, related to cardiovascular disease and type 1 diabetes.
Prof. Ceriello has published hundreds of original research papers on diabetes in prominent medical journals, as well as chapters in international textbooks on diabetes mellitus.
