Summary :
The AusDiab Study showed a steadily rising prevalence of type 2 diabetes in the Australian population, with over 1 million people estimated to have the disease by 2010. In this presentation Dr. Prins reviews the natural history of type 2 diabetes and describes how treatment strategies can be adapted to prevent conversion from IGT to diabetes, lower insulin resistance and preserve beta cell function.
