Dr. Tohru Funahashi
Tohru Funahashi, MD, PhD

Suita, Osaka, Japan
Dr Funahashi received his medical training at Kanasawa University Medical School. He earned his PhD at Osaka University with his thesis Analysis of LDL receptor mutations, and was granted a post-doctoral Fellowship at the University of Chicago where he worked with Professor N Davidson on RNA editing of apoB mRNA. Dr Funahashi has also participated as a core member of the "Reseach for the Future" program with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. His most recent publications include Association of adiponectin mutation with type 2 diabetes : a candidate gene for the insulin resistance syndrome, Diet-induced insulin resistance in mice lacking adiponectin/ACRP30, and Novel modulator for endothelial adhesion molecules : adipocyte-derived plasma protein adiponectin. Dr Funahashi was honoured with the 2001 Erwin von Balz Prize.
