  Biography  

Dr. Barry Simon

Dr. Barry Simon is a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist who specializes in the treatment of obesity. He is an Assistant Professor and a consultation liaison psychiatrist at Mount Sinai Hospital with an affiliation with the Mount Sinai Leadership Centre for Diabetes. Dr. Simon has implemented a short-term cognitive-behavioral group program designed for patients who have difficulties complying with the lifestyle changes recommended by their health professionals. Most members of his group are persons with type 2 diabetes and anxiety or depressive disorders.

In his role as a public educator, he has written two books for the general public on the psychology of weight management. He contributes a biweekly column in the Toronto Star entitled Transformation and has a strong interest in lifestyle modification using distant learning strategies including the internet and peer support.
