"Diabetes: The Global Pandemic"

Prof. Paul Zimmet (biography)
English - 2004-04-14 - 53 minutes
(56 slides)

Summary :
In this One on One presentation Prof. Zimmet answers the question posed by Dr. Lawrence Leiter: ''What does epidemiology teach us about the causes of the diabetes epidemic and, more importantly, its potential prevention and treatment?''

Prof. Zimmet discusses the burden of diabetes worldwide, and presents data from several epidemiological studies. These studies tell us how the trends in diabetes prevalence are changing, and provide insights on which factors are driving the diabetes epidemic and what kinds of strategies can be employed in the prevention and treatment of the disease.
